Lessen your impact on the environment, reuse! Emory Healthcare understands what it means to reuse and has forged a partnership with MedShare. MedShare is an international, non-profit organization that sends surplus medical supplies to underserved hospitals and clinics. Emory Healthcare donates unused, but useable, supplies to MedShare. Every year thousands of pounds of unused medical supplies fill landfills. By sharing supplies, MedShare and Emory Healthcare together, help the Earth stay green.

Ways Emory Healthcare Reuses:

• Since March 2007, Emory Healthcare has collected 112,631 pounds of supplies for MedShare.
• Emory Healthcare volunteers have sorted more than 8,000 pounds of supplies at MedShare's headquarters.
• Fryer grease from the food services departments in Emory University Hospital and Wesley Woods is collected and converted into biodiesel for some of the Clifton Corridor shuttles. This fuel is environmentally-friendly and keeps grease out of our water systems.

Ways You Can Reuse:

Use durable coffee mugs at the office, and not Styrofoam cups.

• Each year Americans throw away 25 billion Styrofoam cups, enough every year to circle the earth 436 times.

Use refillable water bottles whenever possible

• Nearly 90% of plastic water bottles are not recycled, and take thousands of years to decompose. Besides, The EPA's standards for tap water are more stringent than the FDA's standards for bottled water.

Use both sides of a piece of paper

• Americans use 85 million tons of paper a year; about 680 pounds per person.
