Clinical Services for the Fuqua Center for Late-Life Depression
The Fuqua Center provides a variety of clinical services for the older adult. These include outpatient services, community clinics, group therapy, referral services, and telemedicine services.
The Fuqua Center for Late-Life Depression Outpatient Clinic is located in the Wesley Woods Health Center, a part of the Wesley Woods Outpatient Geriatric Clinic that specializes in the care of older adults. The Fuqua Center Outpatient Clinic is a comprehensive treatment service for older adults suffering from depression and anxiety. The outpatient clinical evaluations include both physical and cognitive assessments by a clinician specializing in geriatric psychiatry. Clinicians at The Fuqua Center use several methods to evaluate patients, both initially and throughout the course of their illness. Once an initial assessment has been made, the clinician will schedule an appointment for a follow up visit. The Fuqua Center offers clinical services in the community. A nurse practitioner or clinical nurse specialist is available to follow elderly residents who are living in retirement and assisted living facilities. Services available include screening for depression and dementia, referral either to the Fuqua Center for Late-Life Depression or other appropriate treatment, and follow-up of patients. Follow-up may include medication management, individual and group therapy, and staff and family education on how best to interact and care for residents. Educational programs are also provided for residents, staff and families on topics related to aging, quality of life, depression and dementia. The Transitions Senior Program and the Fuqua Center offer group therapy for older adults that is designed to explore issues associated with clinical depression including loss and bereavement, life transitions, stress, anger and healing. There is no charge for this activity and the group meets weekly at the Wesley Woods Health Center. Please call 404-728-6302 for more information.

Transitions Senior Program The Transitions Senior Program provides coping skills that address feelings of depression, anxiety, loneliness, grief and loss for adults aged 65 and over. The program hours are from 10:00am to 3:00pm Monday through Friday, a schedule that allows clients to return to their homes in the evenings and for weekends. Medicare and most private insurance plans are accepted for the program. Transportation is provided up to 25 miles from the Emory Campus. Primary Care Services The Wesley Woods Geriatric Outpatient Clinic provides a full range of geriatric-specific primary care services and select specialty clinics for the older adult. The Fuqua Center assists in the coordination of care. The focus of the clinic team is always in treating the individual's medical condition in a way that is appropriate to his or her lifestyle. The clinic team includes board-certified physicians who work closely with nurse practitioners, pharmacists, registered nurses, social workers, and therapists. Inpatient Services Inpatient services are available through the Wesley Woods Geriatric Hospital. The Hospital staff is an interdisciplinary team of professionals that assess and intervene on behalf of the patient to return the individual to his or her maximum level of functioning. Both the patient and the family are considered an important part of the treatment team. Patients and family members will be asked to provide accurate information about current symptoms, past medical history and medication regimens with the treatment team. Telemedicine Services Telemedicine is a cutting-edge approach to psychiatry that allows patients in outlying areas who cannot reach the Center to access psychiatric services in the comfort of their local practitioner's office. Telemedicine involves using a computer complete with video and audio to be evaluated by and follow-up with a geriatric psychiatrist. This service is covered by Medicare. Telemedicine services are now available and are expanding.
