Endocrinology and Andrology Laboratories

The Emory Reproductive Center operates Endocrinology and Andrology laboratories to support its assisted reproductive technologies. The laboratories are licensed by the State of Georgia, and certified by the Joint Commission, the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration as a reference laboratory for quality assurance testing.

All tests and procedures conducted at the Emory Reproductive Center are in accordance with the standards of the World Health Organization (WHO), and guidelines of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM) which have established threshold levels for fertility.

Our physicians and staff will work closely with your referring physician to coordinate your care and provide complete urological and gynecological services.

Our Endocrinology Laboratory offers comprehensive services to support the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. Some of these state-of-the art services include:

  • Hysterosalpingography — an X-ray procedure to determine uterine irregularities or blockages in the tubes.
  • Sonohysterography — the use of ultrasound to check for irregularities of the uterus.
  • Endometrial Biopsy — a sample analysis of the lining of the uterus.
  • Diagnostic Laparoscopy — a procedure using a telescope-like device, inserted with a small incision to examine the pelvic cavity, fallopian tubes and uterus.

Our Andrology Laboratory provides comprehensive services for male infertility. These services include:

  • Semen Analysis — a test that measures the following parameters: volume and consistency of semen, sperm count, percentage of sperm that are progressively motile (moving in a straight line), and the sperm morphology (structural appearance) of the sperm.
  • Sperm Wash for IUI Preparation — the process of separating the sperm from the semen as the seminal fluid can irritate the uterus.
  • Sperm Cryopreservation — the process of freezing and storing sperm for future use either in artificial insemination or in vitro fertilization.
