The Emory Division of Abdominal Imaging offers a full range of diagnostic and interventional procedures utilizing state-of-the art equipment. Abdominal radiology concentrates on areas of the body such as the gastrointestinal and urinary tracts, as well as organs of the abdominal and pelvic regions.

PROCEDURES

The department provides a full range of state-of-the-art diagnostic and interventional procedures, such as:

• 3-D Virtual Colonoscopy: A minimally invasive method of evaluating the colon for polyps and masses using CT. The procedure reduces the discomfort and cost of a traditional colonoscopy. The test requires a physician order and costs $500, if not covered by your insurance provider.
• Ablation of Hepatic Tumors: Treatment of primary tumors or selected metatases to the liver with the use of radio frequency energy that causes the tumor to disintegrate over time.
• Percutaneous, (needle inserted through the skin), lung biopsy and other thoracic interventions
• Non-vascular interventional procedures, including:
  • Percutaneous abscess drainage, percutaneous cholecystotomy
  • Percutaneous ethanol tumor ablation (disintegration)
  • Sclerosis of hepatic and renal cysts and lymphoceles
• CT arterial portography and CT angiography
• Abdominal and pelvic MRI
