Improving self-esteem through facial plastic surgery
“Never underestimate the power of appearance and the advantages of being
attractive in our competitive society,” says Seth
A. Yellin, MD, director
of the Emory Facial Center and chief of Facial Plastic Surgery at EMORY HEALTHCARE.
“Improving someone’s self esteem through facial plastic surgery
and non-surgical facial enhancements, offering a new face to the world and
creating a sense that you recognize the face that looks back at you in the
mirror are important concepts,” adds Dr. Yellin.
Yellin’s particular expertise spans three critical areas: creating a
natural look, correcting features someone might not like or facial rejuvenation.
“The biggest fear patients have is that they’re going to look
different, like they’ve had surgery. My practice is all about making
someone look just like him or herself. We can give each patient his or her
own look back, recreating a very natural look for that individual, recapturing
an appearance that’s familiar and comfortable.”
Emory offers a wide range of expertise in the realm of facial plastic surgery.
Yellin and his team of EMORY HEALTHCARE specialists use state-of-the-art techniques
to treat patients of all ages for inherited and aging-related aesthetic facial
concerns, cosmetic and/or functional nasal issues, skin care, skin cancer management,
including Moh’s repair, trauma and facial paralysis reconstruction, microtia
correction and cleft lip/palate repair.
“I find making someone feel good about him or herself, be it a reconstructive
issue or for purely aesthetic concerns, is just as personally gratifying and
can be transformational for the patient,” says Yellin, who believes “facial
aesthetic surgery is a convergence of art and surgery.”
As an academic facial plastic surgeon, Yellin considers it his obligation
to stay current on all the latest information in the field.
“When you come to our practice, you are getting expert opinions,” says
Yellin. “And although head and neck surgical residents are trained here
on a daily basis, everyone is in an observational role. My pledge to each patient
is that I perform all cosmetic surgery procedures personally.
“In terms of interventions, we have a very broad palate of treatment
options from which to choose from a host of minimally invasive injectables,
such as fillers and Botox® and other therapies that essentially involve
no downtime and really give someone improvement, to the more traditional procedures,” says
Yellin.
“The results with just injectable products are quite dramatic,” adds
Yellin, who is a skilled filler injector and national Botox® expert. “Many
of the procedures we offer are not nearly as costly nor do they cause as much
downtime or discomfort as people think.
“The surgery and interventions I do are not about dreams,” says
Yellin. “They’re about delivering results.”
“If you are in the market for a facelift, you are missing an opportunity
if you don’t visit the Emory Facial Center for an opinion,” Yellin
believes. “If you want an honest opinion as to what needs to be done
and a realistic opinion about the healing process and the post-operative experience,
I can address those concerns and issues. We’re often the definitive consult
for people who have sought other information.”
